There’s something incredibly special about being a photographer for your own family. You get to witness, capture, and hold onto little slices of their lives, the moments they’ll look back on years from now. This shoot with my sister Lena, her husband Wayne, and my sweet niece Hadassah was already going to be special just because it was them… but I had no idea how memorable it would actually turn out to be.
We planned a cozy session right at their little home, taking advantage of the warm summer light and the beautiful backdrop of their old barn. Hadassah was in full “photo mode” as soon as I walked in the door, smiling, saying “pictures!” like a tiny pro. She was so ready, and honestly, she nailed every moment.
While I was trying to find a good spot to photograph Hadassah, Lena told her to give me something. I thought it was going to be a flower, something she’s done before. But instead, she handed me a positive pregnancy test.
I was shocked, in the happiest way. Lena was pregnant again! We took a few sweet photos with the test so she could use them to announce the news, which she’s now shared publicly. Being able to capture that moment and be one of the first to know made the shoot even more meaningful.
That’s one of the most magical things about being a photographer, getting to witness the quiet beginnings of big news, and helping turn it into something permanent and cherished. This day was full of laughter, love, and a surprise I’ll never forget.
Congratulations again, Lena and Wayne. And Hadassah, your new role as big sister is going to look just as good on you as that adorable floral dress!
